Self-Esteem: What and Why?

Life is short. And so, we all have the desire to live life to its fullest. We have too short a life to waste it with unhappiness, stress, depression and failure. But how is it possible to avoid failure if you can’t believe that you can be successful? And that is why it is important to have self confidence and to rely on your own abilities. And that feeling of valuing yourself as a capable person is called self-esteem. The opposite of that is low esteem, which is when a person values himself less and thinks himself incapable of anything – leading to ultimate failure of life.

In this article, we will try to focus on the importance of having a high self-esteem:

The view you have about your own self is central to your behavior and thoughts. It determines how you feel and how you value yourself. With positive self-esteem, you will visualize yourself as a person of good quality and will eventually be able to develop that self image in reality.
Having high value of yourself, you will be able to have high value of others. This will help improve your relationships with others and ultimately help you become a happier person.
Self-esteem can mark the difference between success and failure in your life. If you have high esteem and believe you can succeed, you will find your way to success. On the other hand, one with low esteem lives based on the idea that he is a failure, before even attempting a project.
With positive self-esteem, you will eventually get positive outcomes for your activities. While you visualize only what is positive, you will gain only what is positive. Nevertheless, the opposite will happen for having a low esteem.
It helps in increasing your confidence. Having high confidence is not being selfish, but believing in your own capabilities. Confidence and self belief allow you to do more of what you want to do, gain more of what you want to gain and lead you to higher achievement.
With confidence, you can also set your own personal boundary. This means avoiding being a doormat and saying “no” when you really need to say it.

On the other hand, with low esteem, you will only be able to think low of yourself, and ultimately interact poorly with others around you. This will lead you to live a life full of unhappiness, depression, insecurity and low confidence. You will always suffer from an inferiority complex and inner criticism – disapproving of yourself over everything. These will make you feel unworthy of living your life and every challenge or difficulty that comes your way will seem impossible to overcome.

 

But don’t you think life is too short to allow all these negative feelings to stop you from enjoying life? Of course life is too short!

And that is why you need to build a high self-esteem in your self – so that you can live a healthy and happy life and enjoy every bit of the gift of life that you are given.

You have your description on paper now. Creating it into a mental image is done by reflecting on the description and visualizing yourself doing all of that. Visualizing is watching a movie play through your head, where you are doing everything that you described. However, visualizing is only effective if you mix emotion in it. The visualization takes place in your conscious mind, precisely the faculty of the imagination. The emotions are part of your subconscious mind, and this is where we are trying to transfer the image to.

We are going to make this image a part of your belief system, and beliefs are neural networks on the subconscious mind. These neural networks are what command our bodies to do what they do. Emotions are particularly strong parts of these networks, and when they are activated, think of them as becoming sticky. Whatever you are holding in your conscious mind at the time gets stuck to these “emotions” and bypasses some of the filters that normally stop things from coming to your subconscious mind. This is why things that you where seeing or experiencing during an emotional time, are deeply ingrained in your subconscious mind. So if you activate these emotions, especially very strong ones, and you’re visualizing what you intend to be at the same time, it will be much more readily accepted by your subconscious mind.

This image is your goal. The achievement of a goal is a result of certain beliefs and habits. Environment is what supports beliefs and habits. Immediate environment, that is. Like the people you spend time with, the books you read, shows you watch, etc. The three work very tightly together: environment, beliefs, and habits. If any one of them is adjusted, the other two automatically adjust accordingly.

However, we are trying to create new beliefs, so we can’t rely on that part. We must work with the habits and environment. I will cover that in the next article: “Self Esteem – A Call To Confidence (Part 3)…”

In the meantime, look at your goal, and visualize for at least ten minutes today, and again right before you go to sleep. That will begin to prepare you for the system.

If you have not “Self Esteem – A Call To Confidence (Part 1)…” and part 2, it’d be a great idea to check that out. In the preceeding articles we covered self image and visualizations. In this article we’ll put it into a system.

We mentioned how our habits, beliefs, and immediate environment work together, and how if you change any one of the three factors, the formula still stays the same, meaning the other two factors will adjust accordingly. Because we’re working to change the self-image, the beliefs we hold of ourselves, we can’t depend on the “beliefs” factor. So we work with the habits and environment.

Proper physical exercise gives you great health, and proper mental exercise gives you great wealth…great achievement.

You’re dealing with the most important person in your life: YOU. You’re going to need to start treating yourself the same way you treat the person you most love, and we’ll develope a system for it. How would you treat this person? You’d probably spend time alone with them. You’d probably do things for them. You’d make them smile, and buy things for them and make them happy. That’s what you’re gonna need to do for yourself.

Here are the rules:
1. You come before anything else on your schedule. You’ll make time. If you don’t, you’ll fail.
1. You meet with yourself every morning before your day starts, for a minimum of 15 minutes.
1. You commit to this for 30 days minimum.(The moment you commit, you won. Look up the meaning of commit.)If you fail at any point, you must restart.

Here is the habit readjustment. Take a piece of paper, and write “I WON” on it. Staple that paper on top of your decription(your vision). Every morning before you get out of bed, think of your goal…you new self image. Don’t compare it to what you think you are, just visualize for a minute or two. Get up and pick up the paper with your vision on it. Look at the top page, and read out loud, “I WON.” Pretend like you won. Put that smirk on your face, that half-smile or whatever. Now go somewhere nobody can hear you, and where you can walk/jog alone. Emotion is well activated with motion, so you’re going to need to start moving. Right before you start, read your vision out loud. Be sure it is written in the present tense, like, “I am so confident. I am very fit…” rather than, “I will be…”

Now it’s time to start moving. It’s fine to listen to music if you prefer. You must get in a thankful state and you can do this by just saying “Thank You” over and over again. “Thank You…for my opposition, thank you for my health, thank you for my…” As you are moving, say very powerfully, “I WON! I WON! I WON!” and keep repeating it to the beat of whatever form of exercise you are doing. Start adding in your different incantations, like, “I am so confident with….” and “I easily achieve all of my goals” or whatever you determine to have. Alternate your “Thank You”’s in there. Wait, it gets worse.

It is not enough to just say it for the sake of saying it. You MUST CHANGE YOUR PHYSIOLOGY! You gotta have the expressions…the “I’m taking down the world” look. But watch what it does to how you feel! It’s awesome and you will begin to look forward to this because of how empowered you feel. Scientifically, your brain is causing your whole body to respond. I do this every day. In my car. On a trail where people rarely go. In fact, I’m as idiot as they get…I will be shouting at myself! But I also accomplished and continue to accomplish incredible things…by changing my beliefs. I’ll be yelling “THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! BRING IT ON! BRING ME YOUR BEST GAME!! DO I LOOK LIKE SOMEONE THAT BACKS DOWN?? JOKES!” And then there are days where all I say is, “Thank You, Thank You” the whole time, all the while my goal is playing through my head.

This must be done before you start your day. It will be working in you all day. You’ll find yourself repeating “Thank You” regularly.

At night, look at your vision right before bed, and read it out loud, starting and finishing with, “I won” and immediately imagining it. These are a few habits that you will have to upkeep with all faith. You will start noticing changes very quickly, but do not stop before at least 30 days, of unfailing practice have past.

What Is Life Balance, Really?

Have you ever felt that your life is off balance- that something needs to be adjusted? With all of the buzz about life balance along with the myriad of advice to achieve balance, it can be tricky to decipher what, if anything you can or should do to experience more of it. The first step is to consider what it really means. Here is a look at what life balance is vs. is not to assist you in assessing your own life:

Life Balance…

IS something that requires ongoing management. Because our lives are dynamic and ever-changing, our sense of what balance looks like in our lives will be too!

IS NOT an arrival or something to be permanently “attained”.

IS dynamic and will change on a daily basis and with changes in life. Each day balance may look different depending on your priorities that day. A sense of balance in your life will feel and look different if you are single or married, have children, or whether you work full time, own your own business or are enjoying retirement.

IS NOT a one-time assessment, but rather an ongoing process of managing the reality of our daily lives.

IS allocating the right amount of time to the right activities.

IS NOT equal time spent on all activities. The reality is it just doesn’t make sense that we would allocate the same number of hours to each activity per day.

IS about enjoying what you do! Frankly, we can potentially get many things done in one day/week/month, but yet still feel off balance.

IS NOT only about what and how much you accomplish in the major areas of your life. Are you deriving satisfaction from what you are accomplishing? Decide for yourself each day what you will accomplish and enjoy, so you can experience a greater sense of balance in your life. 

Suggested Actions:

1) Reflect on the definitions of life balance. Which one in particular resonates with you the most? Does this alter your view of your life or aspect of your life? How might you think differently now?

2) Decide what you will do when you feel off-balance. What tools will you use? What questions will you ask yourself? What support do you have available?

We are in the delicately flawless prominent position to praise, celebrate, offer continual thanks, while encased in human body. With our personal lives endowed with numerous blessings, a reverently instilled life full of joy and unending bliss precedes our every step. “Oh! Sweet Intoxicating Flavor of Divinity’s Sacred Sensual Sexual Artistic Passing; we recognize thee by thy influx of befitting rapturous joy. Thou hast granted us the occasion to be thine crown of creation. It was the Master Jesus who also said, “I will come to the door and knock. Whosoever hears me and lets me in, I will sup with him…” (Paraphrased) Is there a more pleasurable, meaningful and unforgettable occasion than sharing a meal with someone you love (except for sexual intimacy, of course)? And, it’s through the blending of the delectably alluring smell of the food in addition to its appealing presentation that we are attracted to and consume our choice of meals. So, too, is our sacred sensual sexual artistic lives consecrated and designed.

The all too often ill-repeated words, “I’m doing this for your own good” or “I know what’s best for you” begin to lose their initial soothing appeal and calming influence when we discover that our ‘highest good’ is not decided nor dictated by someone other than ourselves traveling the ‘short path’ down the long arduous road. Our unique inexplicable experiences are ordered from a higher sphere of cosmic understanding whereby we, as well as everyone else involved, are scintillatingly holding the obscurely hidden end of reason’s diving rod. No one walking on two legs can interfere or intrude upon another’s life without bringing untold jeopardy and harm. To interfere has not been decreed by the gods as part of our duty, responsibility or human contractual obligation.

Then, why do we meddle so much? Why do we try to ‘tend to other people’s business?” Why do we continually feel that we must ‘take care of the matter before it gets out of hand’? Because we are so alienated from ourselves! We live in a constant bewildering state of division and derision, existing on the inescapable fear of apprehension. We worry needlessly; often times inventing fictitious situations to fill the void of our own unending anguish. IF we were in peace and harmony with ourselves, all would be right with the world. But, instead we repress our incessant anxiety directing the sense of hopelessness and desperation onto others.

Let’s examine this statement a little further, “What exactly constitutes the highest good of/for others?” Without first operating on that supremely elevated level, which would require non-attachment and the release of self-related vested interest identity, we are totally inept in providing any measure of advice for another. AND, furthermore IF we, in fact, existed from the lofty richly endowed sphere of unimpeded beguiling motives, we would have no desire, need or inclination to offer advice of any kind. We must accept, IF we are to believe we are human experiencing an undefined life on Earth of necessary lessons that we are all perfectly equipped with the exact eudemonia of a mortal enabling us to tend to the state of affairs presented. No matter how unbefittingly bewildering, paradoxically upsetting and hinderingly disconcerting these particular situations occur.

However, we are constructed in such a grandiosely designed manner as to construe a prefabricated method of coping with that which we don’t understand, accept and/or have not experienced for ourselves. Therefore, the barriers of constraint rise up quickly in warring defense so as to protect us from the wrongly perceived unintelligible danger filled events. We are threatened by our own decidedly fixed ‘paths of misery’, though they be safeguarded by repetition’s insoluble engraving. We just do what we do because we’ve always done it and it works. No need to rock the boat!

The trouble with that stubbornly endowed mind set; we end up as robotically motivated creatures of monotonous habit, unfulfilled, depressed, paranoid, restless, and dissatisfied. In order to execute the ‘highest good’ of our being, we must recognize the ‘uniqueness’, [Unusual quality] in our particular destiny that will, can, shall not conform to the ‘old ways of doing things’, regardless of how long they have been enforced. In other words, we are here to experience sacred innovative methods of experiencing life to the fullest.

Man’s ultimate journey on Earth is to seek for his own immediate inner truth, mingle with the various imminent aspects to it, interrelate on variant levels, receive and repel associations of preconditioned preferences, doubt and question every supposed fact presented, contribute a connecting web of creative realization in opposition to that which would demand he not venture out beyond what’s expected and accepted.

Human beings’ primary endowment of celestial greatness is to seek authentic understanding, experimental knowledge, day-to-day living science, pain filled experienced wisdom through absorbed rejection, abandonment, betrayal and heart breaking emotional encounters. These realistic believable contrary human episodes are to be thoroughly exhausted in every ‘nook and cranny’ in life’s highways and byways, so that not a smidgeon of thirst is left unsaturated. We can’t accomplish this ‘high calling’ without falling down into the well of indefinite prolapsed sanity.

Man’s highest attribute, inconsolable reason, must be banished for a season when his feet are unexpectedly planted on uncharted seas. During this surprisingly ‘appearing to be’ hedonistic twist, an undeniable guileless discipline will be enacted upon him who will lead him into, unto and through his ‘highest good’ in destiny’s calling.

We travel through many levels of assorted worlds of pleasure and pain while seeking definitive truth. What definitively guide us are the infallible ineffable reasons found within the latent unconscious drives. Our consciousness expressly raises itself when confronted with the seemingly offending barriers presented. Those things that seem to detract, hinder and besiege are, in fact deliberately laid out on the super highway from our higher good (soul’s intent) being demonstrated without our conscious manipulation and intrusion.

Independent stabilization requires an enormous amount of unsolicited strength. We are not permitted to dip our toes into the pool to see IF the water is too hot or cold. But we are commanded to jump into the deep end of the pool unknowingly ill-prepared to face the consequences. Sound utterly bizarre and cold-bloodedly inhumane? Of course it does, until we realize that reality is constructed from those experiences that are totally unreasonable and ineffectual from the logical viewpoint.

As long as we wallow in the house of pity and blame, competing for affection and complying for security’s seat of comfort, our ‘highest good’ of reality is ‘stayed’ at a safe distance waiting to produce only those needful events we are somewhat ready, willing and able to reciprocate. So we need not fret needlessly, we’re going to do what we are going to do, for our ‘highest good’. Nothing else, but.
